Our Goals

The New York Dragon Boat Alliance Dock Initiative

The New York Dragon Boat Alliance (NYDBA) is committed to strengthening and expanding the dragon boat community across the city and beyond. To support this mission, we are pursuing the development of a dedicated dock specifically for dragon boat teams and enthusiasts. This initiative reflects our belief that the sport of dragon boating—rich in tradition, teamwork, and inclusion—deserves a permanent, accessible home. The key goals of this project are:

  1. Establish a Centralized, Accessible Launch Point
Create a safe, reliable, and centrally located dock that provides all dragon boat teams—recreational, competitive, youth, and community-based—with consistent access to the water.
  2. Support the Growth of the Sport
Accommodate increasing interest in dragon boating by building infrastructure that can support more teams, new paddlers, and expanded programming, including youth leagues, corporate events, and cultural celebrations.
  3. Foster Equity and Inclusion
Ensure that underrepresented and historically marginalized communities have access to the sport by reducing logistical barriers and providing shared resources in a communal, welcoming space.
  4. Promote Cultural Heritage and Community Engagement
Celebrate and preserve the cultural roots of dragon boating while also engaging local communities through public events, partnerships, and outreach programs at the dock site.
  5. Improve Safety and Training Capabilities
Provide a properly equipped dock to enable safer boarding, improved instruction, and on-site training sessions for paddlers of all levels.
       Create a Sustainable Operational Hub
  6. Create a Sustainable Operational Hub
Develop the dock as a long-term operational base for the NYDBA and its member teams, allowing for better coordination of events, storage, boat maintenance, and seasonal planning.
  7. Enhance Visibility and Tourism
Position New York City as a premier destination for dragon boat festivals and races, driving economic and cultural benefits to local neighborhoods through increased tourism and participation.
