NYDBA Dock Initiative: Building a Permanent Home for Dragon Boating in Flushing Bay

As part of our ongoing commitment to strengthening New York’s vibrant dragon boat community, the New York Dragon Boat Alliance (NYDBA) is proud to share plans for a new dock facility at Flushing Bay.

With the closure of our current docks due to the World’s Fair Marina rehabilitation, NYDBA has initiated a project to build a dedicated, permanent dock that will serve hundreds of paddlers, coaches, and community members throughout the region. This facility is designed to ensure safe, equitable access to the water and a stable future for dragon boating in New York City.

Working with engineers, our scope includes:

  • Securing environmental permits from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, and Department of State,
  • Designing and administering construction of a modern dock system tailored to the specific needs of dragon boat teams.
  • Coordinating closely with stakeholders to align with the larger marina redevelopment efforts while maintaining our own distinct identity and operations.

The proposed dock site will feature gated entry for safety and easy access to launching areas. Preliminary visualizations and site perspectives are now available, giving the public a glimpse of what’s to come:
